Julia Ousley is a Sculptor based in Dallas, New York and the wilds of Taos, and showing everywhere.
Growing up in a creative family of carpenters, mechanics and home-makers, gave her an early love of making things. After an initial career in dental hygiene and with a young family, she undertook a masters degree in architecture and practiced with others and as founding partner in a small firm of her own for many years.
Then a move to New York for art school resulted in an MFA and an enduring love of sculpture and Brooklyn. Continuing to design, and now making things herself, she began working in studios in Dallas, New York and summer retreats she organized in the mountains of northern New Mexico.
Drawing on her varied background in health science and architecture her work is often about that place where the human condition and the built environment intersect and made of common construction materials.
Julia has been honored to receive both public and private commissions. She is always excited to engage in the process of research, discovery and collaboration that a new project brings. Meeting new people, traveling to new places and exploring new possibilities keeps her art alive and relevant.
